Foundations

Primary at SVCC is encompassed by the belief that each child is a gift from God, with unique qualities and gifts to offer.

At SVCC, learning is Christ-centred, purposeful, and nurturing. From the Early Learning Centre through to Year 12, students are encouraged to see themselves as capable, curious learners who are created in God’s image and gifted with unique talents.

Our teaching is guided by the Understanding by Design (UbD) framework, which focuses on building enduring understandings, essential skills, and the ability to transfer knowledge into real-life contexts. Across the College, learning is hands-on, inquiry-driven, and tailored to meet the needs of each student. Literacy and numeracy foundations are built through evidence-based programs, while specialist areas such as the arts, languages, sport, and outdoor education enrich the curriculum.

Our learning environments whether indoors, outdoors, or in the community, are designed to foster voice, exploration, and responsible risk-taking.

Junior Primary (Foundation - Yr 2)

We nurture a sense of wonder in a warm, supportive environment where strong relationships help children grow in confidence as learners and share their ideas with others. Teachers design purposeful, play-based, hands-on experiences that build essential skills and connect learning to real-world contexts. Essential Questions spark curiosity and inquiry, encouraging students to engage deeply with their studies.

Literacy is developed through InitiaLit, with explicit instruction and regular progress checks that guide early support and keep families informed. Numeracy grows through hands-on, play-based activities linked to everyday life, helping children strengthen number sense and extend mathematical understanding.

A Biblical perspective enriches learning through prayer, worship, and opportunities to explore God-given talents and passions. Using The Zones of Regulation, students learn age-appropriate strategies to recognise and manage feelings, express emotions in healthy ways, and build positive relationships. In class, engaging discovery projects further spark interests, encourage collaboration, and strengthen communication within a nurturing, faith-filled community.

Upper Primary (Years 3 - 6)

Students deepen their curiosity, creativity, and independence while building empathy and meaningful relationships within a nurturing, Christ-centred community. Learning experiences promote resilience and confidence as students take ownership of their education and connect knowledge to real-life contexts. Essential Questions spark inquiry and critical thinking, encouraging students to transfer understanding across subjects.

Literacy is strengthened through SpellEx (MultiLit), an explicit, evidence-based program with regular progress checks that support growth in reading and writing. Numeracy is developed through real-world applications, with Year 6 students engaging in Maths Pathway for personalised learning that builds number sense and confidence.

Students extend The Zones of Regulation by developing personal strategies to focus, manage stress, and respond thoughtfully in social situations, fostering empathy and positive interactions. Beyond the classroom, they represent the College in SACSA inter-school sport and immerse themselves in drama, music, and movement, building confidence, teamwork, and creative expression.

Children are provided with opportunities to worship our Heavenly Father each day and learn in a faith filled environment.

Grounded in the truth of God’s Word, we believe that every child is uniquely created in His image, gifted with purpose, and called to contribute meaningfully to the world.

By prioritising our students’ wellbeing, we empower students to not only achieve their academic potential but also to develop into compassionate, confident, and well-adjusted individuals.

Our whole-school approach to wellbeing is through prevention from a holistic framework, supporting students socially, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. In school life, we encourage prevention through a wide range of support, learning programs, and engaging activities.

Years 3 to 6 participate in a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) iPad program. We believe it is vital for children to be equipped to participate in our ever-changing 21st-century society. iPads are a necessary tool to empower children to learn.

Foundation to Year 2 students have access to a school bank of iPads.

Here at SVCC, we have created a dedicated space at both campuses where support can be provided – ‘The Hub.’

This environment is designed to give every student a sense of security and belonging, enabling them to thrive in their learning and regulate their emotions. The Hub also provides a supportive and engaging space for Learning Support and Extended Learning programs.
