Pathways

In Secondary, our framework aims to nurture learners who are spiritually grounded, intellectually curious, and equipped with the capabilities they need to thrive in an ever-changing world.

Our curriculum and diverse subject selection prepares students not only for academic success, but for lifelong growth, service, and purposeful contribution to God’s world.

Working in partnership with families, we strive to open doors of opportunity and prepare every individual for their next steps.

Years 7-9

In Years 7–9, students navigate the exciting and sometimes challenging transition from childhood to young adulthood. Students grow in independence and agency while being supported by dedicated teachers and pastoral mentors. Relationships, wellbeing, and a strong sense of belonging are prioritised, helping every learner feel known, encouraged, and equipped to serve others. We emphasise whole-child development that is spiritually grounded, intellectually curious, and socially responsible, so that students are prepared to make a positive difference.

Learning is guided by the Understanding by Design (UbD) framework, with teachers planning for enduring understandings that link concepts across subjects and into real-world contexts. Essential Questions drive curiosity and inquiry, while learning pathways are personalised to meet individual needs. A Biblical perspective enriches learning through prayer, worship, and the discovery of God-given gifts. Capability growth, including critical and creative thinking, social and ethical awareness, and intercultural understanding, ensures achievement is seen as more than a grade.

In Year 9, The Rite Journey provides a unique opportunity to reflect on values, character, and identity while developing the resilience and skills needed for adulthood. Through mentoring, meaningful discussion, and real-world challenges, students grow in responsibility, respect, and maturity. Beyond the classroom, students practise leadership and service in age-appropriate ways, contribute to College initiatives, and engage in authentic community learning. Building on The Zones of Regulation, they also strengthen focus, emotional literacy, and positive relationships, growing in confidence and grit as they prepare for the rigour of Senior School.

Years 10-12

Years 10–12 are a season of growth and preparation as students shape both their academic pathways and personal character. Strong relationships between school and home are prioritised so every young person feels supported, encouraged, and empowered to approach opportunities with confidence. Spiritually grounded and intellectually curious, our graduates are equipped to thrive beyond school, ready to make a meaningful impact in the world.

Learning is sequenced with purpose: Year 10 builds exploration and bridges to SACE, Year 11 develops depth and direction, and Year 12 offers flexible, goal-aligned pathways. Students engage in programs such as the River Journey, Enrichment Program, Assessment Centre, and uniTest, which foster resilience, broaden horizons, and connect learning to future study and careers. A wide range of SACE subjects, VET pathways, and partnerships with tertiary institutions expand opportunities for every learner.

We focus on five strengths for lifelong success—personal enterprise, quality thinking, self-motivated learning, principled action, and collective engagement. These are embedded in daily learning as students try new ideas, think critically, act with integrity, and contribute positively to their community.

Wellbeing is central, with pastoral care, careers guidance, and coordinated support ensuring students are known and cared for. Leadership and service opportunities, including mentoring, enterprise projects, and Hospitality training in our Trade Training Centre, provide authentic contexts for growth. Students demonstrate their learning through projects, performances, and portfolios that showcase skills and values while earning recognised credentials for their next steps in study, training, or employment.

Children are provided with opportunities to worship our Heavenly Father each day and learn in a faith filled environment.

Grounded in the truth of God’s Word, we believe that every child is uniquely created in His image, gifted with purpose, and called to contribute meaningfully to the world.

By prioritising our students’ wellbeing, we empower students to not only achieve their academic potential but also to develop into compassionate, confident, and well-adjusted individuals.

Our whole-school approach to wellbeing is through prevention from a holistic framework, supporting students socially, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. In school life, we encourage prevention through a wide range of support, learning programs, and engaging activities.

In order to facilitate ‘just-in-time’ personalised learning, students utilise their laptops to engage and be immersed in their studies. Students have immediate access to information relating to their particular study of interest. This is supported by a substantive network system, incorporating a Learner Management System where students have 24 hour access to assignments, homework, marks and other resources provided by their teacher. This program has yielded increasingly positive academic outcomes.

Here at SVCC, we have created a dedicated space at both campuses where support can be provided – ‘The Hub.’

This environment is designed to give every student a sense of security and belonging, enabling them to thrive in their learning and regulate their emotions. The Hub also provides a supportive and engaging space for Learning Support and Extended Learning programs.
