fashion awards 2022
Year 11 and 12 students are able to study Fashion Design through the subject of Design, Technology and Engineering. The students consider not only aesthetic choices but also conceptual ideas behind their garments. While sewing is an important part of the course, many students add elements of quite complex construction using wood, cardboard, metal and other things.
This month, we had the opportunity to enter the students works into a Wearable Art competition in Warrnambool, Victoria. Our girls loved the experience of modelling their garments and competing against mainly adult artists and students studying Fashion Design at a University level.
Performance on the runway was a criteria of judging and our girls stepped out of their comfort zones to be quite theatrical in their presentations with one of our students, Lara, who is a dancer putting on quite an amazing choreographed performance. Lara won the overall Youth award.
While students took away three awards, they are all winners in our eyes. SVCC is so proud of these students who are not only very talented but who engaged beautifully with the warm, friendly Warrnambool community.
It is a privilege to teach this amazing subject in a college who is so supportive of the Arts and we look forward to showcasing the garments again at our annual Arts Extravaganza on Wednesday evening, 7.15pm, November 30.
