Getting to know our music team: Mrs Rex, Performing Arts Teacher, based at our Aldinga Campus
WE ASKED MRS REX, OUR ALDINGA PERFORMING ARTS TEACHER, TO TELL US A BIT ABOUT HERSELF AND FOUND SHE’S BEEN DEDICATED TO MUSIC SINCE CHILDHOOD…
I have always loved music and singing in particular. My first song at age of 2 was 'The joy of the Lord is my strength'...which has actually become a life motto for me, a promise I have always stood on. My mother started teaching me guitar at age 5 and I changed to cello in year 1 at age 6. I played cello my whole school life.
I received a music scholarship to Brighton Secondary School where I was given the experience of playing in string quartets, Baroque ensembles and Orchestras. I took up the piano as a second instrument. I also enjoyed singing in the Brighton High Treble Choir. I had opportunities to perform in Melbourne during school which was amazing.
In year 11 I passed my Grade 8 AMEB Cello examination with Honours.
In year 11 I was also selected to be part of the Feast of Tabernacles Orchestra in Jerusalem. This was an amazing experience which opened up a love for Israel and playing as part of a worship orchestra. I returned to play in this orchestra in Jerusalem for the next 4 years. I even spent 3 months living in Israel while working for the International Christian Embassy in Jerusalem.
I became part of a worship team in my youth and have always enjoyed praise and worship. In my early 20's I became the Music Director at my church and have served in that capacity since as well as also serving as Associate Pastor. It is my passion to see people refine their musical skills, increase their passion for worship & leadership and grow in their love for Jesus.
My love for music has found me teaching Primary Music and Performing Arts for 13 years so far. I have had the joy of seeing hundreds of children share in music and performance experience and see the joy it brings to them and their families.
I strongly recommend starting your child on an instrument. It can open up so many doors as they grow and refine their skills; from opportunities to play in bands, worship teams, choirs and even orchestras that travel the world!
